Healthy Communities Festival Returns April 22
Celebrate Earth Day with Food, Entertainment and Family Fun at Cascades Park
April 17, 2017
This year, Earth Day falls on a weekend, which is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy Tallahassee's trails, recreational areas and natural beauty.
The community can also celebrate at the communitywide Earth Day celebration, the Healthy Communities Festival, which will take place on Saturday, April 22, at Cascades Park. Hosted by the City of Tallahassee, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Sustainable Tallahassee, Whole Child Leon and the Florida Water Environment Association-Big Bend Chapter, the free event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park's Meridian Plaza.
Geared for all ages, the third annual festival will feature educational booths, live entertainment, demonstrations and food vendors. The goal is to share sustainability information and practices that make our community holistically healthy.
"Our rich natural environment and abundant supply of clean water are invaluable assets that can sustain our residents and economy for generations to come," Commissioner Nancy Miller said. "I look forward to seeing everyone on Earth Day at the Healthy Communities Festival."
Dozens of exhibitor tents will be situated in the park's Meridian Plaza. Attendees will be able to learn about community gardening, solar energy, healthy living, fitness and much more. There will even be a yoga class at 1:30 p.m. (Those interested should bring a mat and wear comfortable clothes.)
To keep the energy moving, the event will feature live entertainment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tallahassee's Star Swain will open with her signature rendition of the national anthem to set the stage for several local acts. Performers will include the TCC Dance Company, Trousdell Ballerinas, Trousdell Gymnastics Dance Team, Tallahassee Tribal Bellydance and the Dance Electric Dance Academy.
Exhibitor space is free and is still available for a short time. Anyone interested in participating as an exhibitor or volunteer is encouraged to register online.
